Marine Corps League’s most Prestigious Award!

Letters of Nomination must originate only at the DETACHMENT LEVEL. No individual or any subsidiary unit of the Marine Corps League shall submit a letter of nomination.


All letters of Nomination shall include a letter signed by the Detachment Commandant and Adjutant, stating that the nominee for Department Marine of the Year was approved at a regular meeting of the Detachment by majority vote.
(In the event the nominee is the Detachment Commandant, the letter of nomination shall be signed by Detachment Sr. Vice Commandant and the Detachment Adjutant, In the case the nominee is the Detachment Adjutant, the letter shall be signed by Detachment Commandant and Sr. Vice Commandant).

All letters of nomination shall be type written on 8 ½" X 11" white bond paper (Detachment letter head if available) and submitted to the Department Junior Vice Commandant (see address below) in a sealed envelope. Only one nomination per letter and shall be mailed, certified / return receipt requested. All nominations must be received (by the Department Jr. Vice Commandant) no later than April 1. Any received after that date will not be considered.

  • Note: In order to be nominated for National Marine of the Year this same procedure must be followed and nomination received by President, National Marine of the Year Society by July 20.

    Who is Eligible?
    This award shall be presented to a REGULAR MEMBER of the Marine Corps League who has rendered service(s) and / or preformed a deed(s) above and beyond the duties and obligations required of a member of the Marine Corps League, or meritorious deed(s) so identified as being meritorious deed(s) so identified as being within the scope of these rules shall be of such substance that weight will or shall have brought acclaim and prestige to the Marine Corps League; or has enhanced and / or furthered the concepts of the duties of being a citizen of the United States of America; or a deed(s) of courage or valor without regard for his / her own safety.
